Şerife İnci Eren

Born in Nazilli, Şerife İnci Eren completed her elementary and high school education in Izmir Çamlaraltı Lycee. Eren who started her university life in USA Rider University, graduated from Bosphorus University’s Business Administration of Administrative Sciences Faculty, and Education Division of Liberal Arts Faculty.

Eren who started her business life in Jantaş A.Ş., served as Assistant Manager of General Manager for Human Resources and Public Relations. Thereafter, she claimed the duty of General Management for Cidaş A.Ş. of Inci Holding and Inci Sigorta Ltd. Company. Eren who also served as Chairperson of Inci Holding and Inci Akü, and Chairperson of Inci Holding Family Council and Family Assembly, still serves as a board member of Inci Holding and Hayes Lemmers Inci Jant Sanayi A.Ş., and Chairperson of Educational Foundation of Cevdet Inci.
She’s the moderator of Izmir Economic Development and Coordination Committee (İEKKK) / 2012 and also the chairperson of Turkey’s Family Business Association (TAIDER) of which she is the founder.

She is the founding member of Aegean Free Zone Users Association, and also members of the Graduates of Bosphorus University (BÜMED), Atatürkist Thought Association/ Konak, Culture Park Tennis Club, Gözpete Soroptomist Club and Turkish Amerikan Association (TAD). She is the founder and moderator of Booklovers Yahoogroups. She received Dünya Newspaper’s award for Successful Women of the Year in 2000, the grand award of Friend of Melvin Jones from Lions Clubs in 2008, and “VIII. Ones who claim the Republic in our City” award from Private Lycee of Çamlaraltı.

Frederick Chavalit Tsao

Mr. Frederick Chavalit Tsao is the Chairman of IMC Pan Asia Alliance Group since 1995. Born in 1957, Mr Tsao joined the family business in 1977 and took over the helm of the IMC Group of Companies in 1995, to form IMC Pan Asia Alliance. Under his leadership, the company expanded from a traditional shipping company to one that is focused on integrated industrial supply chains and a group that is diversified from maritime interests to encompass lifestyle/real estate, investments and community development.
In 1995, Mr Tsao created the East West Cultural Development Centre, a non-profit organization aimed at building more harmonious relationships in a rapidly globalized world. He is also President of FBNA, the regional chapter of Family Business Network International, the world’s leading netwoSArk of business owning families which seek to promote the sustainability of family businesses.
Mr. Tsao takes a keen interest in the shipping industry and has been active in many professional associations. He served as Chairman of Intercargo from 1998 to 2005 and remains as an Executive Committee Member. He is also a Director of the China Ship-owners Mutual Assurance Society and a Member of the Bureau Veritas Asia & Australia Committee, and the American Bureau of Shipping. Mr. Tsao holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.

Hamdi Akın

Hamdi Akin holds a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from Gazi University. Akin established the first company of Akfen Holding in 1976; the holding which focuses on construction, tourism, trade and services. Akin is the Chairman of Board of Directors in Akfen Holding and TAV Airports Holding which was founded by Hamdi Akin in 2005.
Akin was able to channel his interest and dynamism in the business world to many associations, non-profit organizations and foundations. He served as;
Fenerbahçe Sports Club-Vice President (2000-2002), Turkish Employers’ Association of Metal Industries (MESS) –President of Regional Representatives Office in Ankara (1992-2004),
Young Businessmen Association of Turkey (TÜGİAD)-Chairman of Board of Directors Turkish Confederation of Employers’ Associations(TİSK) –Member of the Board (1995-2001),
Turkish Industry and Business Association (TÜSİAD)-Member of the Board of Directors and President of Information and New Technologies Commission (2008-2009)
Since 2011, Akin has been serving as a Member of the Board of Clean Sea Association (TURMEPA).
Akin is also one of the founders of the ‘Modern Turkey Chair’ in London School of Economics, Founder Member and Honorary President of Turkey Human Resources Foundation which was established in 1999 to provide skilled workforce to the country and Vice Chairman of Board of Trustees of Foundation for Supporting Kayseri Abdullah Gül University.

Selim Akın

Selim Akin graduated from Surrey University in England studying Business Administration in 2006. During his university life, he carried out the head of Turkish Association and when he had returned to his country, he became a member of Young Businessmen Association of Turkey. Foreign Economic Relations Board Turkish-Russian Business Council, FERB Turkish-Iraq Business Council Executive Board, TAV Airports Holding Committee for Early Risk Detection Member. Starting his business life at Akfen Holding Finance Department he continued at the Project Developing department. Privatizing and financing of the vehicle inspection stations, privatizing and financing of the Mersin port, Akfen Holding public offering and bond issue projects one of the major projects Selim Akin took part in.
Selim Akin currently holds the Board Member and Vice Chairman pozitions in Akfen Holding.

Pelin Akın

Pelin Akın graduated from the Business Administration and Spanish Department of Surrey University in the United Kingdom in 2010; she started her professional career in the Strategy section of Deutsche Bank Finance Department in Madrid.
After returning to Turkey, she started working for TAV Airports and was included in the Management Trainee Program to be trained as a future director. Pelin Akın holds positions in different groups of both the Spanish Business Council and British Business Council of DEIK and she is responsible for Tatlıdil Forum. She is also an active member of the Board of Trustees and the Board of Directors at TİKAV (Turkish Human Resources Education and Health Foundation).
Pelin Akın is Vice President of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award-Turkey, whose main sponsor is Akfen Holding. She is also Chairwoman of the Advisory Board of the Contemporary Turkish Studies Chair at London School of Economics since 2010. Pelin Akın is a member of the Turkish Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (TUSİAD), Young Executive Businessman Association (GYİAD), Young Presidents Organization (YPO), and TAV Airports Holding Corporate Governance Committee. She currently serves as a Member of the Corporate Governance Committee and Member of the Board at Akfen Holding and as a member of Akfen REIT’s Early Determination of Risk Committee.

Prof. Dr. Acar Baltaş

Hüsnü Özyeğin

Mr. Hüsnü M. Özyeğin who is a prominent businessmen and a well-known philanthropist in Turkey and Europe was born in 1944 in İzmir, Turkey. Hüsnü M. Özyeğin graduated from Robert Academy in 1963 and received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University in Corvallis Oregon in 1967, and an MBA degree from Harvard Business School in 1969.

In 1974, he was appointed the Managing Director of Pamukbank. He became the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Yapı Kredi in 1984.

In September 1987, he founded Finansbank which quickly evolved to become one of Turkey’s most prominent and respected banks. He was the Chairman of Finansbank between 1987 – 2010.

Mr. Özyeğin is the Chairman of Fiba Holding A.Ş., Fibabanka A.Ş., Credit Europe Bank (Suisse) S.A. in Geneva. He is also the Board Member of Credit Europe Bank (Moscow) Ltd.

Fiba Holding is active in financial services, tourism, retail and real estate development.

Mr. Özyeğin is involved in numerous civic activities as Chairman of Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Foundation (HMÖV), Board Member of Mother and Child Education Foundation (AÇEV) and Chairman of Board of Trustees of Özyeğin University and Member of Board of Dean’s Advisors of Harvard Business School.

Mr. Özyeğin is married, has two children and five grandchildren.

Ateş Sungur

Founder partner of Execution Partners, Sungur has 10 years of consultancy experience in Turkey and abroad. He has been conducting projects in strategy execution at private/public sector organizations and NGOs.
Prior to establishing Execution Partners, he worked at the İstanbul Office of Palladium Executing Strategy Inc., which is established by creators of BSC methodology, Robert Kaplan and David Norton. Sungur was responsible as Strategic Planning Manager and PMO officer at Yapı Merkezi for 8 years.
Areas of expertise around Strategy Management: increasing effectiveness of Boards and alignment of Executive Committees through strategy clarification, strategy execution framework, corporate and individual performance management programs, cascading of strategy to organization and strategy governance.

Bernard ARKAS

Born in Izmir on 28 August 1970, Bernard Arcas completed his junior high education at Izmir’s Saint Joseph High School and his high school education at Ecole Nouvelle de la Suisse Romande (Switzerland). He then went to the City of London where he graduated with a degree from the Maritime Department.

Bernard Arcas began his professional career as a Branch Manager at Arkas in 1991 and served consecutively in management positions in exports, regional distribution, line shipping, imports and then as a general manager. Bernard Arcas is responsible for agency services and the overseas structuring of the holding. He continues his career as the Executive Vice President of the Arkas Holding Board of Directors.

Bernard Arcas also continues to serve as the Vice President of the Arkas Sports Club.

Mr. Arcas speaks French, English and Italian and has 3 children.

Lucien Arkas

Lucien Arkas was born in Izmir in 1945 and graduated from Saint Joseph’s French High School, Istanbul.
Lucien Arkas entered the business world in 1964 at the Lucien Arkas Shipping Agency.
As of 1979 he served as Director of the Executive Board of Arkas Shipping & Transport S.A. and the Arkas Group of Companies. With the establishment of Arkas Holding in 2000, he continued to this day as Chairman of Arkas Holding.

In addition to Turkish, Lucien Arkas is fluent in French, English, Italian and Greek.

Mr Arkas is a member of the Board and presides over the Logistics Business Council of the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK), he is a member of the Turkish Industry & Business Association (TUSIAD), a Board Member of GRF (Global Relations Forum). He holds the office of treasurer of the Maritime Transporters’ Association-Izmir and is the Chairman of the Orion Foundation. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Bilkent University and of the High Advisory Board of the Turkish Marine Environment Protection Association (TURMEPA) and of the Aegean Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (ESİAD) and the Alsancak Rotary Club.

Lucien Arkas serves as the French Government’s Foreign Trade Commercial Counsellor and has also been honoured as Officer of the French National Order of Merit, Knight of the French Legion of Honour, Knight of the Italian Republic’s Order of Merit and the Republic of Austria’s Großes Silbernes Order of Merit.

Lucien Arkas is married and has four children.

Diane Arcas Aktaş

Born in Izmir in 1972, Diane Arcas Aktaş completed her elementary and junior high education in Izmir and then continued her high school education at the American Community School. In 1995, she graduated from Political Science and International Relations at Boğaziçi University. She continues her academic studies in Middlesex University, Shipping & Logistics MBA program in London .

After completing her university education, Diane Arcas Aktaş joined the world of business and first worked in various departments; later she has served as Export/Import Director, Branch Director and Corporate Management Leader in Arkas Holding. Since 2008, she has been serving as the Executive Vice President of the Arkas Holding Board of Directors, President of the Logistics Group and Vice President of Arkas Fleet Management Group.

Diane Arcas Aktaş speaks English and French. In her free time she pursues academic studies and likes to spend time with her friends and family. Diane Arcas Aktaş is married and has one child.

Dr. Güler Manisalı Darman

Dr. Guler Manisali Darman was born in 1979, graduated from METU Business Administration. She has her MBA in Political Science METU and her Phd in Finance from Baskent University.
She found her own consultancy company in 2005 in the field of corporate governance related services ranging from assessment to research and from raising awareness to compliance with a group of eligible partners.

She lectures on Corporate Governance in Middle East Technical University Faculty of Business Administration-Ankara, and TOBB Economy and Technology University-Ankara. She was the past CFO of Bilkent Group composed of 67 companies in Ankara for the years 1988 -2005. Past Secretary General of ICC Turkish National Committee between the years 1980-1988. Founding Member of JCI (Junior Chamber International) Turkey. Apart from her major duties, she took part in many fields as well.
Mrs. Guler Manisali Darman is the author of ICC (International Chamber of Commerce) Book, “Corporate Governance Worldwide”; Vice-Chair, ICC Commission on Financial Services and Insurance; Member, ICC Finance Committee- governing body of the ICC. Participated to International Conferences/Roundtables in China, Japan, South Africa, UK, Sweden, Norway, Italy, France, Morocco, Dubai, Czech Republic and Turkey, and had presentations on Corporate Governance and CSR in the last two and a half years, has articles and book chapters published on corporate governance. In 2009, her e-book “Through the process of Family Business Institutionalization towards the Corporate Management” was published by CGS Center. In 2010, “Transparency in Corporate Management and Accountability” was published as well.

She is currently giving lectures in METU regarding the Corporate Management.

Priscilla de Moustier

Priscilla de Moustier is a 9th generation member of the Wendel family. The Wendel family business began in 1704 when Jean-Martin de Wendel created a forge in Lorraine, a province in the east of France. 310 years later, after numerous ups and downs, Wendel is a long term investor with a diversified inernational portfolio with a net asset value of approximately 5 bn euros. Wendel is a listed company controlled by a family holding Wendel-Participations (36 % of equity, 47% of voting rights) which has over 1050 family shareholders. Wendel-and Wendel-Participations together sponsored the creation of the Wendel International Centre for Family entreprise at INSEAD which studies and teaches Family Business. Priscilla de Moustier is on the board of the family holding where she chairs the Family Cohesion Committee, she also sits on the board of the listed compagnie Wendel where she belongs o to the Governance commitee. She monitors the Wendel centre at INSEAD. In addition, she is vice-president of the French chapter of the FBN and sits on the board of FBN International. Very committed to development issues, she is on the board of a large french NGO ACTED and chairs the board of a micro-finance company, OXUS.

Christine Blondel

Christine Blondel is Adjunct Professor of Family Business at INSEAD, where she co-directs The Family Enterprise Challenge – a one-week programme for business families. She coordinated INSEAD family enterprise activities from their creation in January 1997 until December 2007 – she was the first Executive Director of the Wendel International Centre for Family Enterprise.
Since 2007, Christine Blondel has developed her own consulting practice (FamilyGovernance), advising family firms on their governance and transmission. She regularly speaks in conferences. She sits on the boards of INSEAD Foundation and D’Ieteren, a 200 + year-old family company, traded on Brussels stock exchange.
Christine Blondel contributed to many articles, cases and books on topics including large, multi-generational family firms, successors’ dilemma, Fair Process, governance, women in the family business, and the sale of the family business.
Christine Blondel was a board member of the Family Business Network International (FBNI) from 2001 to 2004; she conducted sessions in eleven FBN world Summits and several country chapters. She was a founding board member of the International Family Enterprise Research Academy (IFERA). She is a member of the Family Firm Institute (FFI) and of the French and Belgium Institutes of Directors.
A graduate from INSEAD (MBA 1981) and Ecole Polytechnique (France, promotion 1977) she worked 3 years as a management consultant before joining Procter & Gamble, where she had positions in Marketing (Brand Manager) and Finance (Associate Finance Director) (1984 to 1993).
A mother of four children, her interest for family business finds its roots in her own family: both her grand-fathers were owner-managers of such businesses.

Moderatör: Aydın Buğra İlter

Aydın Bugra Ilter, born in İstanbul on 1976. He graduated from Dokuz Eylül University, Faculty of Law in 1999. During his practice, he attended post graduate programs in private law and economics law. He also has a postgraduate degree in MBA.
He is a partner of ITA Legal & Advisory. With his team he focuses on commercial and corporate law, corporate & family governance, restructuring of the family business, contracts and disputes arising from contractual relations.
Aydın Bugra Ilter is a member of Corporate Governance Association of Turkey, Family Business Association (TAİDER-Turkish Chapter of Family Business Network), International Chamber of Commerce Turkish National Committee, International Bar Association, AEA International Lawyers Network, Center for International Legal Studies and Aegean Young Businessman Association.

Dr. Mevlüt Büyükhelvacıgil

Born in Konya in 1961, Mevlut Buyukhelvacigil studied Business Administration both in Selcuk University and Anadolu University. He studied masters degree in USA Preston University on Functional Oil and studied PhD on “Corporate Governance in Family Businesses and Constitution Practices”.

In 1991, finding the Zade Vegetable Oil Refining Facilities, he found high-tech II. Oil Refining and Integrated Facilities with PLC automation systems in 2003. Under the leadership of Mevlut Buyukhelcavigil, Zade Facilities became one of the best facilities around the world together with its’ R&D center, system and quality certificates, advanced technology.

He had raised awareness regarding the breast and uterine cancer with a project of “Supporting a Healthy Life” theme. Paying a close attention for the cultural development of young generations, Dr. Buyukhelvacigil supported the “7 Province Short Film Festival”.
His works regarding the “family constitution” and “family businesses” which were prepared in 7 years with 7.000 resources were used as a reference by many companies. The book “Institutionalization in Family Businesses and Family Constitution” also included a considerable amount of “Helvacizade Family Constitution” as well and it served as a guide for many Turkish family businesses. The English version of the book was used as a resource in many universities around the world.

He is the member of many non-governmental organizations such as the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey Chemical Sector , Chairman of R&D Innovation, Konya Chamber of Industry Board Member, Malaysian Palm Oil Board, American Soybean Association, Founder of Traffic Accidents Protection Association. He also writes at economic sections of the newspapers and is an editor at certain journals and he is still Board Member of Helvacizade Inc. He is married and has 5 children.

Mehmet Küçükkaya

Mehmet Kucukkaya, is a Tax & Law Partner at EY and has an experience of 14 years in the Firm. He is a lawyer registered at the Istanbul Bar Association. He graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Law and holds an LL.M degree from Marmara University at Fiscal Law. He participated in Transfer Pricing studies at IBFD-Amsterdam. He is a member of TUSIAD Corporate Law Group and a member of IFA Turkey.
His areas of interest are, Corporate and Commercial Law, Fiscal Law, Banking and Finance Law, Capital Markets Law, Labor Law, Restructurings (Mergers, Spin-off, Conversions), Foreign Currency Regulations, Foreign Direct Investment Regulations.

His Professional experiences are; extensive experience in corporate law and banking law issues. Assisted a multinational mega bank establishment in Turkey, covering all the legal aspects including the procedures at the BRSA and the courts. Extensive knowledge in cross-border mergers and acquisitions, tax & legal structuring, domestic and international joint ventures, restructurings. Legal transformation of family owned business as preparation for JV or transfer of shares. Preparation and assessment of shareholders agreements of investors and target company shareholders. Dispute resolution on various sectors regarding the financial issues. Advisory services during the negotiable instrument issuance of several companies. Ahmet Şerif İzgören

Ahmet Serif IZGOREN was born in 1965 in Izmir-Turkey. He studied English Linguistics in Hacettepe University. After graduating, he started working for Turkish Armed Forces and resigned in 1991 after working until the Lieutenant rank. He took part as a Founding Manager in TOMER. Afterwards, he became a general manager of two private companies respectively.
He found the Izgoren Academy in 1996. He carried out a collaborated Project with Sunley Management Center of Northampton University between1998-2003. In 2001, he was an Associate in Eastern Mediterranean University in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus for one year.

Providing many education and trainings in England, Denmark, Germany and many more countries in 2001, Izgoren was also the founding leader of TUP (a programme of social responsibility). He is currently educating at various seminars as well.
Izgoren is currently the board chairman of five companies including Izgoren Academy and has twenty books published.

Haluk Alacaklıoğlu

Alacaklıoğlu who has been supporting family companies over two hundred with good applications in many countries since 2000, is the founder of Family Business Governance, LLP (Family Business Advisory). He completed his undergraduate education in Bosphorus University, and did his master’s degree magna cum laude in (MBA) Harvard Business School. He did his doctorate and received title of Ph.D. in American University in London.

Starting his career in his multinational companies, Haluk Alacaklıoğlu, worked as an executive in USA, Europe and Middle East. He started Turkey and Middle East branches as the managing partner of an internationally leading company in Sources of Tepe management, and supported hundreds of companies by finding of executives, evaluation and management.
Alacaklıoğlu had the chance to know better public stock companies and family companies as a result of these experiences. Making use of these experiences, he specialized in institutionalization in family companies (by being in the driver’s seat), passing from generation to generation with success, institutional management and effective structuring of executive boards and thus enabling productive endeavors by using these experiences.

He led the designing of Turkey’s best applications code as chairperson of Institutional Management Committee in TUSIAD. The code was published in December 2012 by TUSIAD. In the same year, he led the drive for establishing Turkey’s first and only independent Institutional Management Association, and was elected chairperson.
Alacaklıoğlu’s many scientific articles related to institutionalization, family constitutions, takeover (succession) planning, intergeneration transition, activating executive boards and increasing performances, were published in local and foreign press. He gave seminars in USA (FFI-San Francisco and Miami), Canada, Switzerland, Spain, India, Syria, Jordan, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar and South Africa.

Dr. Alacaklıoğlu still serves in institutionalization in family companies in western Europe and Middle East, the ones in Turkey in particular. He worked with family companies in many different countries as USA, Japan, Canada, Holland, Germany, France, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and South Africa. His first book Institutional Family Companies and Institutional Management was published in 2009.

Doğan Cüceloğlu

After he graduated from Psychology Department of Istanbul University, he studied for doctorate in field of Cognitive Psychology (perceiving, thinking, communication) in Illinois University in USA.
Thereafter, Cüceloğlu who served in Istanbul University, Hacettepe University and Bosphorus University respectively, performed studies for a year as a visiting lecturer in California University in Berkeley via Fulbright scholarship.

Cüceloğlu who served in Fullerton, in U.S.A. California State University in 1980 – 1996, published more than 40 scientific articles in Turkish and English. He concentrated on giving seminars and conferences, and making TV programs intended for university students, teachers, parents and businesspersons in Turkey since 1996.

Simon Torres

Simon Torres is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of a family owned business based in Bogota, Colombia, where he has served as member since 2005. Contempo is a second generation family owned business and a local leader in green real estate development and hospitality. Parallel to that, Simon has founded and has been developing a social project since 2009 in his hometown dedicated to soccer training for young kids. He has been awarded with the Young Entrepreneurs Honors for this project, prize given by the Family Business Network during the world summit taken place in Chicago in 2010. Prior to founding the soccer school, Simon worked for a government institution in his country which takes care of the welfare of the children across Colombia managing the construction of schools and kinder gardens in remote and poor areas. >From 2003 through 2008, Simon worked in construction as a managing engineer throughout various projects, mostly institutional buildings. Simon Torres holds aFamily Business MBA from the Kennesaw State University in Georgia. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Transportation Engineering and Construction Management and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the Universidad de los Andes in Bogota, Colombia.
