TAİDER Family Businesses Association Hosts Northern Star Summit and Awards Ceremony

Sustainability Awards Found Their Winners

The Family Businesses Association TAİDER hosted the 7th Annual Summit and Awards Ceremony of the Northern Star Program, which it initiated to support family businesses in developing sustainable business models and journeys towards sustainability. The Summit, where leading figures from the business world came together, presented awards to the winners.

The 7th edition of the Northern Star Summit and Awards Ceremony brought together exemplary family businesses and leading figures in the business world who embrace TAİDER's sustainability principles.

The Summit began with a speech by Fatma Olten, the President of the Board of Directors of TAİDER Family Businesses Association, emphasizing the importance of sustainability in building the future. Olten said, "As the future environmental conditions of the world are uncertain and technology constantly changes, creating increasing awareness about sustainability makes us extremely happy. The Northern Star Program plays a significant role in the sustainability roadmap by enabling companies to determine their strategies and goals in environmental, social, and economic dimensions. We thank everyone who supports us on this journey of embracing sustainability from generation to generation."

Continuing under the moderation of Onur Eren, the Founder of Light Eagle, the Summit featured an impressive conversation with Andrew Bryson, the Impact and Innovation Leader of the Family Business Network. In the session titled "From Sustainability to Impact: Systematic Change," Bryson discussed creating positive impacts in every field, from renewable energy usage to waste reduction strategies, community projects, and education programs. Bryson said, "Family businesses are leading the way in change around the world. While focusing on societal issues, they are also aware of the shortcomings in the current system. They evaluate these shortcomings for their own progress with a wide range of topics. Collaboration and changing mindsets are crucial for systemic change."

"87% of family businesses have strategic plans."

TAİDER Sustainability Co-Chair Osman Aytaman, who moderated the session "Sustainability and Finance" with TEB Corporate Companies Sales Director and SASECOM Sustainability Committee Chair Berna Ozay Duzcu, discussed what family businesses can do for sustainability and shared information on environmental management. Aytaman also shared the results of the TAİDER Sustainability Survey at the Summit. Aytaman said, "While 87% of family businesses have strategic plans, 45% update these strategic plans annually. The data shows that companies are successful in energy conservation while also making efforts in water and air quality. This survey reflects the efforts of family businesses in sustainability and emphasizes the importance of strategic planning and continuous improvement."

The Summit continued with sessions and speeches by Yaman Alkan, Partner at Mazars Sustainability Services, Eda Çetintaş, Corporate Sustainability Manager at Yeşilova Holding, Melis Yasa, Deputy General Manager at Aromsa Inc., Ozan Turan, Board Member at ODE Insulation, Begüm Yağcı Taktaş, Board Member Responsible for Sustainability at Domino Textile, Kıvılcım Pınar Kocabıyık, Chairperson of Yuvam Dünya, and Melda Çele, General Secretary of UN Global Compact Turkey. Participants discussed sustainability approaches in depth, highlighting the advantages of sustainability in its environmental, social, and economic dimensions and emphasizing the importance of similar steps for the future.

Awards were presented in six different categories.

In the Summit held within the scope of the TAİDER Family Businesses Association Northern Star Program, awards were presented in six different categories.

Fersan Fermentation Products Industry and Trade Inc. received the award in the "Environment" category, and the award was received by Seçil Azizoğlu, Director of Human Resources and Culture, on behalf of the company.

In the "Corporate Governance" category, Petroyağ ve Kimyasallar San. Tic. A.Ş. received the award, and it was received by General Manager Nuri Refik Düzgören on behalf of the company.

Tirsan Kardan Industry and Trade Inc., operating in the automotive sector, was awarded in the "Employees" category. The award was received by Füsun Toros, Director of Human Resources, on behalf of the company.

Telateks Textile Products Industry and Trade Inc., operating in the home textiles sector, received the award in the "Community" category, and it was received by Ergenç İnel, COO, on behalf of the company.

Göçtur Tourism Investment Trading Inc. / Pinebay Holiday Resort, operating in the tourism sector and known for its sustainability efforts, received the award in the "Next Generation and Family" category. The award was received by Naile Göçen Çukurova, Chairperson of the Board of Directors.

The "Grand Prize of the Northern Star Program" was awarded to Telateks Textile Products Industry and Trade Inc., which has various works in sustainability. The award, presented by TAİDER President Fatma Olten, was received by CEO Uğur Üstünel.
